This is a new feature I hope to continue in which I will recommend books in various genres/niches. A lot of the time people will say “I liked ____, what else is there?” and if you’re at a bookstore or a library there is a decent chance that no one will be able to help you out. Today we will start with the ever-controversial vampires.

Now, the majority of people asking for vampire books will have read Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga, but if you have not I do recommend them. They are an empty-calories indulgence, but are fun as hell to read. The story, of course, revolves around seventeen-year-old Bella Swan, who moves to Forks, Washington and falls in to a deadly world filled with vampires.

Next are two series with some similarities, but both are good reads. The House of Night series by P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast focuses on Zoey, who has been Chosen by the Goddess Nyx to become a Vampyre High Priestess and must go to the House of Night, a boarding school for fledgling Vampyres. In a  similar vein is Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I haven’t read this series, but I have heard good things, and it also is about a vampire boarding school.

Cynthia Leitich Smith’s Tantalize and Eternal deal with vampires and also have werewolves and guardian angels thrown into the mix. The two or only very loosely connected, but a third book is due out which will tie them together.

Peeps by Scott Westerfeld came out a few years ago, and is unlike any of these other books. Vampirism is actually a parasite that is spread through sexual intercourse, so Cal has to go back and make sure that every girl he has slept with hasn’t contracted it. The sequel The Last Days deals with new character Moz, who starts a band and may end up saving the world.

New out this April is Catherine Jinks’ The Reformed Vampire Support Group. Another oe I haven’t read, I hear it is a spoof on the genre but a very good read.

Well, that’s all for now. If you have any more vampire-related books, feel free to post them in the comments!
